Our new clients arrived with a remarkably precise and ambitious vision for their home. Having purchased a period property that had been an ongoing project with the previous owners, they were drawn to the character and proportions of the house, the restorations and adaptations we had already completed, and the extensive private grounds. They also recognised the untapped potential offered by the unbuilt planning permission for further extensions. But they wanted more: a home that delivered true luxury in every detail, a layout reimagined for modern family living at a premium level, and an architectural transformation that would elevate the property into a genuine high end super home.
 
Their clarity and ambition set the tone for the entire project. Every space needed to feel generous, refined and beautifully resolved. Every material choice needed to speak to quality. Every moment of the home needed to convey a sense of ease and indulgence. And because the house sat within the Green Belt, the planning process demanded a rigorous, evidence based approach. Justifying the significant increase in size required careful negotiation, detailed design justification and a clear demonstration that the proposals respected both policy and context. We ultimately obtained planning permission for a substantial two storey extension anchored by a spacious orangery. This became the centrepiece of the new family living space: a large kitchen and family room with dedicated dining and sitting areas within the orangery, all designed to feel bright, elegant and effortlessly luxurious. An adjoining sitting room and playroom expanded the sense of flow, while a pantry, chef’s kitchen, utility room and boot room provided the level of functionality and refinement expected in a home of this calibre.

The new master suite was conceived as a private sanctuary. Extensive dressing rooms, a walk in wardrobe and a generous en suite created a sequence of spaces that felt indulgent, serene and beautifully crafted. The scale, flow and materiality of these rooms reflected the clients’ desire for a home that balanced luxury with comfort and precision with warmth.

Externally, the transformation was equally ambitious. We had previously enhanced one side of the house for the former owners, creating a garden front. The new clients wanted the opposite side to be just as impressive, with a grander and more formal entrance that would redefine the arrival experience. We replaced a mismatched bay window with a matching curved bay and introduced a new stone columned entrance canopy and front door. This opened into a dramatic double height hall centred around a new three storey curved staircase, a sculptural statement piece that immediately set the tone for the home’s luxurious character.


The result was a complete reimagining of the property: a period house elevated into a contemporary luxury home, shaped by clients with exceptional clarity and ambition, and delivered through design thinking that matched their precision at every step, including navigating the complexities of Green Belt planning to make their vision possible. Every space now reflects a commitment to luxury, craftsmanship and architectural presence.
